Regulating global Mercury uses

Experts call for a mercury-free Pakistan and seek a stipulated time-frame to start negotiations on the issue. Speaking at a seminar on “Regulating Global Mercury Uses and Releases Control: Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee Fifth Meeting (INC-5) – Issues and Concerns for Pakistan,” organized by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) in Islamabad, they discussed ways to stop the use of mercury in industrial and agricultural processes in compliance with international standards. Speakers highlighted that final round of international treaty negotiations (INC-5) on Mercury in Geneva, which is due in mid-January 2013, is “Our World’s Last Chance” to cooperate in creating a strong international action on reducing Mercury emissions, its trade and use.
